Blatzkrieg.

Jake called, and asked if we wanted to go out for St. Pats. "50 cent beers, yo!" I was all, yeah, it will be like four-ounce glasses, but what the hell. I gave the nice lady a dollar, and she gave me two bottles. Two bottles! So, then I was all, a bottle of beer for two American quarters? This is going to be very unpleasant. I'd never had Blatz before, but isn't that just a name that screams "Do NOT drink me!" Nothing good can possibly have a name like Blatz.Well, it wasn't good beer, but it could have so easily been so much worse. And let's not overlook the fact that me and my $12 could buy a lot of it. Oh, did I buy a lot of it. So did Jake. So did Jared. For some reason, a "round" of Blatzes always consisted of 8-12 bottles for five people. There were just ridiculous numbers of bottles on our table. If they'd been cans, we could have at least stacked them, but there's not a lot you can do with an empty bottle, except move it out of the way. Fortunately, the nice beer fairy realized that all these bottles were going to the same table, and made a point of coming to collect them whenever she could. Then, the nice beer fairy turned evil, and started coming around with a trayful of whiskey shots. $2 for a shot? Are you mad?? I could have uh...give me a minute....FOUR beers for that price! Naughty, naughty serving wench. She knew exactly the right time to come with the tray. We'd all had enough beers to have reached the point where a shot, even a shot of straight whiskey, seems like a really good idea. I woke up today feeling a lot better than I probably deserved. The really clever part is, apparently this wasn't just a St. Patrick's promotion. Schnieder's does the 50 cent Blatzes every single Wednesday. The mind boggles.
