Kind of a boring entry. There are a few new links in the sidebar, though.

I made an important discovery last Friday. If you must work on Black Friday, a grocery store is the place to do it. No one goes to the grocery store the day after Thanksgiving. The whole weekend was pretty slow, actually. I've been told that December will completely kick my ass, but after the pre-Thanksgiving rush, a few days of mellow was pretty sweet. Technically, I was working there last December. I had to give a month's notice at Fazuul, but I worked for The Man one day a week that whole month. I remember thinking that it seemed almost decadently easy. "They're paying me to do this? Seriously??" Of course, all I did then was wait on customers. Now that I know all the sidework and prep, I'm sure work will be much more intense. *** That's really OK, though. My hire date was late Novemberish. My fulltime start date was the first week in January. No matter how you look at it, I'm coming up on a year anniversary, which equals a week of vacation. A month ago, I thought The Man would be open on Xmas. I told Rijid there was absolutely no way I could get off. I mentioned the week of vacation, and suggested we go visit his family in January instead. I have since learned that actually, The Man is closed on Xmas, and only open till 5 on Xmas Eve. The January Plan is still preferable, though. We've done 24-Hour-Christmas, and it sucks. Eight hours in the car. Maybe a little sleep. CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS! Eight more hours in the car. No, thanks. So. I need to figure out how requesting vacation time actually works. Ideally, I get the first two weekends in January, and the week in between. That way we can hang out with both sets of families. It kind of makes me sad, though, to blow my whole vacation basically the minute it appears. Hmm. I can request off for two-non-vacation days each week. I need to think about this.
