I think I just signed up for a temp agency. The phone woke me up, and before I was even conscious, I was telling a very happy woman all about my experience with inventory and my desire for a first shift job. The very happy woman asked if I was available to start immediately. That was when I woke up a little, and explained that I would have to give a month's notice at my current job. She said she would make a note of that, and would be contacting me soon with positions. I thanked her. I'm not about to give notice at Fazuul for the possibility of temp work. That's just crazy-talk. I think I'll wait and see what kinds of things she can actually find, and go from there. I'm pretty sure temp places start out by placing you in the occasional 1-2 day assignment, and then if those work out, you get offered more long-term work. I can't afford to live like that. If I were going to go the temp route, I think I'd want some money saved up, so I could continue to pay bills while waiting for assignments. It was a good feeling, though. I put a rsum online, and someone responded to it practically instantly. Yaay, me! *** My student loan payment for October will be less than $50, and then it disappears entirely. If I'm not working in J-ville I'll save at least one tank of gas a month, and if I'm not required to wear a semiprofessional shirt to work in a restaurant, I'll save about $40/month in dry-cleaning. Needing less money opens up more possible jobs. (Of course, if I stay at basically the same income, I could make all kinds of debt go away.) The point is, I promised myself that when the student loans went away, I would job search like nobody's business, and finally, get myself the hell out of food service. I've got a fairly ridiculous schedule this month (grumble grumble TEN closing shifts in a row, grumble mumble a week with only one day off) and the Lead RM is threatening to make me do the scheduling. I HATE scheduling. It's time. So, I went to the local job sites, and applied for stuff. I also left my rsum up to be searched by any random employers who felt so inclined. This apparently got me a temp agency. Well, it's a start.
