Work was kinda cool. Yeah, I'm as surprised as you are.

Last week I mentioned that I never work Tuesdays. Wednesday, I went in, and saw that wasn't really true anymore. I have many strange powers. Ahem. I WILL NEVER BE RICH.

Maybe the universe only proves me wrong after I hit "submit." Yeah. That must be it.

I was right, though. Closing on Tuesdays is much less sucky than driving all the way out there for a meeting on a day off.

Oh, it was a magical close. In theory, if the restaurant closes at 10, everyone should be done cleaning up and gone by 11. I'm usually done with my stuff by 11, but every closing shift I've had lately has involved training at least one person on how to close their section, and I'm lucky to get out by midnight.

Someone realized a long time ago that if all the managers are spending an hour sitting in the dining room for a meeting, the closers on Tuesdays all have to be people who can basically run the restaurant unsupervised for an hour. The added bonus is that after the meeting, they all kept right on being awesome employees, and were asking me to check their closing duty lists for them at 10:45.

I'll not see the likes of those heady days again. I know I only got the Closing Dream Team because of the meeting. From a long term standpoint, it really makes sense to have one good closer, and two people who will be better with more practice.

It's amazing though, how much more pleasant my job is when I get a whole staff who don't need to be talked through every single step for two hours. My steamtable guy? Cleaned BEHIND his garbage cans without being asked. Dining Room Girl? Stocked absolutely everything, including filling the ice machines. Dishwasher? I'm beginning to suspect that my dishwasher will be Jeeves when he grows up. If I turn my back on him for 10 minutes, EVERYTHING will be done the next time I look. It's uncanny. I haven't actually asked him yet to help any of my friends with their romantic entanglements, but maybe I should.
