In Milwaukee, I was scared to go anywhere. After two years, I knew walking distance around my neighborhood, and I knew which bus would take me to the mall downtown, and that's it. I still couldn't tell you how to get TO my old neighborhood from anywhere else. The other day, I needed a router, so I went to Best Buy and bought one. Of course, I now have MapQuest and my own vehicle, so it really wasn't a big deal. 10 minutes on the internet, and a 15 minute drive. It just felt like such a huge grownup step that I simply never made the last time I lived in a city. *** I celebrated my awesomeness by buying Sims2, and that's pretty much all I've been doing since. My computer isn't quite studly enough to handle it, so I've got a lot of lag issues, but I'm still having fun with it. All kinds of things that annoyed me in the first game have been fixed. The kitchen is so pretty! Any furniture or door or window can come in a variety of colors now, so it's much easier to make a "matched" room. I'm also really enjoying the whole kids grow up thing. In the old game, kids were basically annoying pets. You had to feed them, and show them attention all the time, but nothing would ever come of it. In this game, I've got a little girl who has already passed succesfully through being born, baby, and toddler. Someday, she's going to marry the boy next door. OK, this probably isn't very interesting to anyone but me. Let's just take it as read that I have a game, I'm playing it like a Girl, and move on. *** Work is going well. I'm still making a lot of mistakes, but I'm making new mistakes every day. That's progress, I think. I'm learning from my mistakes, or something. Closing kind of annoys me, because it involves an hour of hanging out in the freezer and counting everything. Almost all my shifts are closes, because no one likes the freezer, and I'm the New Kid. But, last night, my inventory was only off by 2%. Ideally, it should be off by .5%, but compared to last week, when I was routinely off by 9% or more, I was thrilled.
