Come to Timmons! No, seriously. Right now. 25 cent taps, yo!
2003-03-17 5:39 p.m.

Done with work for today. I only have to work six, maybe seven more times before the weekend. (Today is Monday. Seven shifts in the next 4 days. Woohoo!) Having two part time jobs really kind of sucks sometimes.

The bookstore can only give me about 10 hours/week till the school year ends and half their staff graduates. Foolishly, I told the restaurant I wanted a few more hours for a little while, and oh, I got hours in abundance. It's really ok, though. Money is good, and I do get an entire work-free weekend.

I'm really a little annoyed at the restaurant right now. Nick is insane. There are roughly 10 waitresses right now. Mary and Linda are fulltime. Deb and I work two jobs, and are, in theory at least, part time. Everyone else is a college student who only wants one or two shifts a week.

This is a major headache to make a schedule around. Eventually though, it should just barely work out. Nicole can only do Monday nights, so that means Debbie always gets Mondays off. Holly can only work Thurs. afternoon, so Ana can have off that day. And so on. It's annoying, but it can in fact be done.

The problem is, there hasn't been a whole week where the schedule got to go off entirely as planned in months. People call in sick all the time. Or, they wait until the schedule has been posted before telling anyone that oh, wait, this week, I can't do that one shift I said I could always do.

Nick's solution? Hire a few dozen more college students.

The really funny part is, in two months, we won't even have these eight or so shifts covered anymore, because none of the college kids are staying through the summer. I'd bet any money that Nick won't even start thinking about hiring summer help till school's been out a month and Linda and Deb and I are completely stressed out and insane.

OK, I'm sick of ranting about that for now. (It's about damn time, you're thinking...) What else is going on in my life?

LARP is this weekend. Bob asked me a few weeks ago if I was still planning on playing. I suppose it's a reasonable question, but it really bummed me out that he had to ask. Yeah, I'm only doing this because my boyfriend does. I don't even like icky gamer dorks. Is that really what everyone there thinks I am?

For the record, I am the quintessential dork. I love Next Gen. I quote Red Dwarf and The Tick. I play bridge. I use words like "quintessential" in casual conversation. The only difference between me and you is that I haven't spent the last 10 years rolling funny-shaped dice. I tried it a few times, but never really got into it.

Then, ALL my friends were suddenly talking about this LARP thing. Not just him. I couldn't go anywhere in my social circle without having to interrupt the conversation 50 times to ask, "Wait, who's JT? Wait, what's a Guthrie?"

They explained to me exactly what a LARP was, and it sounded different enough from tabletop games that I thought I'd give it a try. Hans and Paul and Jared and Bob and BT were just as much of an influence on my decision as D was. Then, I discovered that it really was fun, and I decided to stick with it.

(OK, We're going to ignore the part about how maybe since LARP folk read this thing, I've just now opened up an entirely new can of metaworms, because it's St Patrick's, and Paul just called to invite me out for 25 cent taps at Timmons. And if you weren't actually thinking anything at all like that about me and the LARP, thanks.)
