"Why doesn't this bookstore have anything good?"

"We've got lots of good books. What kinds of books do you like?"

"All the books you don't have."

"Well, if you give me a title, I can look it up on the computer here, and see if I'd be able to special order it for you. What were you looking for?"

"Um...do you have a list?"

A list?? You mean, a paper printout of every single book printed in English in the last 30 years? Yeah, I've got that. Let me go get the forklift, and I'll bring it right out...

I was trying to think of a nice way to explain that the computer I was standing right next to was for all practical purposes "the list," but I was afraid I'd have to explain what a "com-pu-tor" was first, and then my brain started to hurt. Luckily, Mary got involved right about then, and he went over to pester her for a while.
