When I got home, I was just too damn tired to think. On Saturdays, it's usually busy till 10 or so, and then everyone has to help set up the buffet. Last night, the supervisor asked me if I wanted to be cut at 8:30. I said hell yeah. Then I remembered that I still had to help set up the buffet before I left. Goddammit. I couldn't leave till my tables were gone anyway, so I decided I would bust my butt, and do my share of buffet stuff, and still be out by 9. I figured that if everything possible was done, I could reasonably expect to get the hell out before the dining room cleared, and the real work began.

Oh, what a fool I was. I kept finding one more thing I could do (and thus, really should do) before I left. Lousy work ethic. At 10:30, everything was done except the small putzy stuff. I left, minus the tips I could have earned if I hadn't let myself be cut so damn early. Everyone who had worked the full shift probably left by 10:45. I can tell myself I gave everyone else the opportunity to have an early night. Gosh, it's good to be such a fucking humanitarian.
